OWAO 2022

The 1st Open World Astronomy Olympiad (OWAO) was held in the city of Saransk, Russia, from September 26 to October 2, 2022. The competition aims at supporting astronomical education, talented schoolchildren and strengthening international academic ties. The Olympiad was held remotely. The exams were supervised via video-surveillance.

There were four rounds: theoretical, practical, observational and express (test). The computers were actively used, including for data processing and analysis. The working language of the OWAO is English. The problems were not translated into other languages, but participants might use a pre-announced vocabulary.

No participation fee was to be paid this year.

Registration

Each country might be represented by a maximum of 6 students, 2 team leaders and 2 observers.
As of January 1, 2022, participants must be in school and under the age of 19.

When registering, the following is indicated: names and dates of birth of team members, contacts of the person in charge.
At the request of the participants, their names are hidden in the protocol.
Similar measures might be taken at the request of team leaders.
